Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.
Acts 4:29-30 - NKJV.
Signs are attesting miracles. They attest to the working and words of God. They confirm the word preached. They accompany the preaching of the word. Signs and wonders are by the power of the Holy Spirit and they come in the name of Jesus.
Now this has direct implication for our preaching! The Lord works with; confirming the Word. It is the Word which gets preached that is confirmed with signs. To state it plainly, it is not our words but God's Word that brings God's accompanying signs. God does not confirm our illustrations, explanations and summaries used in preached messages we deliver. He confirms His Word. God has no obligation to back up what you have said at all. On the other hand, He has definitely obliged Himself to back up His own Word. He confirms with signs the Word of God you preach, even the Word just preached to yourself. Mar.16:20.
It was in the name of Jesus and the boldness of the Holy Spirit that signs and wonders accompanied the Word spoken by the apostles and disciples. It is in the Name of Jesus - and the same Holy Spirit boldness - that the Word you speak will call for God to accompany it with signs of His intention to show Himself faithful to that Word.
