Finding Passion

by Pastor Simon

I take joy in doing your will, my God: for your law is written on my heart.

Psalm 40:8 - New Living Translation

There's a lot of cerebral activity goes on in the church and this is fine if it's submitted to God's Spirit and subjected to God's Word. However, a passion for Jesus will come from the heart. A passion for God and the things of God will come from the heart when we allow our hearts to be ignited with zeal, to burn with a desire to do God's will. It's not a cerebral acceptance but a heart welcoming of God's Word that we need!

Start taking God's Word to your heart. It will cause you to start taking joy - yes, passion - in living for God and His Will! As a believer you so often fight at the level of your head to enter into committed obedience and service. In truth, though, it's at the level of your heart that this battle will be won! The obedience and the service you battle over without victory is the obedience and service your heart hasn't totally taken up God's Word on. Once it gets in your heart then you'll find it becomes through Christ by His Spirit the inner empowering you need enabling you to walk passionately in all that His Word counsels.

The struggle most of us have is with letting God's Word have a real and permanent place on our hearts. Let's pray, "Father, open my heart to Your Word! Lord, where I have put up barriers in front of my heart against Your Word help me to remove them. Lord, may I have a heart wallpapered in Your Word that I may rejoice to do Your Will. May Your Word ignite a passion within me to walk in your ways!"

God's Word in your heart makes all the difference!
