Get wise

by Pastor Simon

Let no one be in any illusion over this. If any man among you thinks himself one of the world's clever ones, let him discard his cleverness that he may learn to be truly wise.

1 Corinthians 3:18 - J.B.Phillips' translation

The children of this world count it clever to devise shortcuts to success while sacrificing honesty and love. Look at the worldly wise athletes, for example, who resort to performance enhancing drugs thinking it's the only way to reach their goals. They count it clever, failing to reckon up the long term cost of their short term gain. The fact is, in every field of endeavour you'll find men and women of this world engaging in cleverness to make an apparent gain.

In life, at the moment, what are you engaged in? What are you looking to achieve? Whatever it is, God's calling you to go after the wisdom for it that is from above! James 3:17. He's calling you to discard the cleverness you've used in the past and get, instead, His wisdom for success. He will give His wisdom in abundance to you if you will just ask it of Him. James 1:5.

May you have wisdom and not cleverness! God has wisdom that will lead you to get the job done right and within it achieve short term good and long term gains for both you and all concerned. This is a prime reason why God gave His Holy Spirit to dwell within you - so that you may have His wisdom. You can have all the wisdom you need for every situation you face if you will look to the Holy Spirit. Study Proverbs chapter four with its message on wisdom. Receive to yourself its promise of long life and all necessary good!

Get wisdom and with it understanding!
