Catch the vision
Where there is no vision the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Proverbs 29:18 - KJV
How am I approaching my tasks, both those big and those small? It's good for me to ask myself that question and check I've still got vision in my life. If I'm taking the children to school, am I seeing myself involved in "little people" development? If I'm preaching a sermon, am I seeking to build up God's people? If I'm ministering individually, am I looking to help God's people be a glorious dwelling place for Him?
I heard someone tell of a survey into people's approaches to work. On a building site a bricklayer was asked, "What are you doing?" He replied, "I'm laying bricks." Another bricklayer on the same site was asked the same question. He replied, "I'm building a cathedral!" Two men engaged in the same task but with a different perception of it. One was focused only on the immediate task before him but the other had caught a vision of the bigger, grander task he was making a significant contribution to. What effect might this have had? It's likely the second man worked with glory in what he did. The other man might have been just doing his job from a sense of duty.
How about you? Do you see the bigger picture of what you're working to accomplish by all your activity? Or could it be that you've got so caught up in your work that you've lost sight what all the work is intended to accomplish? Don't just do tasks, rather engage in a vision! Take time to re-capture in your heart and mind the vision you've had from God. May that vision for you give you glory in all that you do!
Be a "cathedral" builder!
