Understanding tribulation
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
John 16:33 - NKJV
Times of tribulation in your Christian life should not catch you unexpectedly. As much as you have been giving time to God's word you will have been enjoying peace as a result through the light, joy and faith it brings. This hasn't gone unnoticed. The devil sees it and counts it a threat to his plans. If you've been coming up against troubles lately they've not come from nowhere. There's a background to those troubles. Those troubles are called tribulation and it's the devil who orchestrates it against you.
Tribulation is the devil putting the squeeze on you. The way you experience it is as pressure on you mentally, physically or spiritually. To you it appears though it's coming from men, women or circumstances but the real perpetrator is Satan. The devil hates to see people walking in peace - he loses captives that way. If his captives see you enjoying peace through Christ's words then they will also look to them so as to escape his darkness! So the devil stirs up tribulation. It's his strategy to rob you of the word from God which has been keeping you in peace. Mar.4:14-17.
What are you to do? Go to the Lord! Encourage yourself in Him. Receive from Him His strength so you can resist the devil. Start joy welling up within you by taking a good look afresh at Christ's victory. See Jesus seated at the right hand of the Father. Recognise that He is the Lord who delivers you. Let rejoicing be your strategy against the devil! Ja.1:2, Psa.43:5, Eph.6:10-13.
Satan flees from the saints' resistance!
