Take new courage

by Pastor Simon

God, wishing to show the heirs of his promise even more clearly that his plan was unchangeable, confirmed it with an oath. So that by two utterly unchangeable things, the word of God and the oath of God, we...might grasp the hope that he holds out to us.

Hebrews 6:17-18 - J.B. Phillips

God wants you to take courage! He sees the struggles you face. He sees what you're up against in life. At the same time He sees also that you are believing in Him and the promises He's given you. This pleases Him. His desire is for you to make it through it all and see the fulfilment of the promises. Heb.11:6, Psa.27:14.

The patriarch Abraham experienced that struggle. He was struggling to rest in the hope he should have had having received God's promise. Seeing his struggle God came to his aid with an oath. To demonstrate His full intention of performing His Word God confirmed His Word with a blood sacrifice. Having told Abraham to make a sacrifice of animals, God walked through the midst of it. This was God's solemn oath to Abraham. What did this do for Abraham? It brought an end to any quibbling; after this Abraham had no further question regarding the strength of God's intention to fulfil His Word to him. Gen.15:7-17.

Like Abraham, we also have both God's Word and God's oath! God has spoken to us by His Son and also by His Son He has made us an oath. This oath is in the blood of the Lamb. Quibble no more about the promises! With courage renewed rest in hope. Have perfect assurance in you that God will not at any time change His mind over His promises. Wait with confidence until you see the promises having fulfilment in your life. Ro.8:32

Hold on now, the fulfilment is coming!
