The Daily Guide
Times of preparation
This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the Lord of hosts...For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.
Zechariah 4:6,10 - NKJV
Behind the scenes of our lives the Holy Spirit is always at work for us. Do we let Him work? God's children want to be always active wholly engaged in everything that's happening. In truth, though, God frequently looks for us to step aside from activity. He wants us to reflect on how far we've come and gather our strength for where we're going to be going!
Look how it was for the disciples. In Acts chapter one we read the disciples are left to wait. Jesus had commanded them to stay in Jerusalem and wait for the Holy Spirit. How hard they found it just to wait in prayer! They had become so used to constant engagement in life-changing events they felt they had to do something. They gave themselves the task of selecting someone to fill the post Judas had left. How futile doing that turned out to be! Don't invent work when you're supposed to be waiting!
Should you be active or should you be quiet in your life right now? Remember the disciples quiet time in Jerusalem before the Day of Pentecost! Their quiet days were a time for spiritual preparation for the power of God to come upon them before their real work began. Rest in the Lord waiting on Him if that is what the Holy Spirit is recommending to your heart. It may only be for only ten minutes but it could be better than ten hours of activity!
Let the Holy Spirit work!
