The Daily Guide
Keep on, pressing on
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected, but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me...I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:12,14 - NKJV
You are made to make it. Like the salmon is formed to make it to the upper reaches of the river so are you made to make it into the high calling of God! The salmon presses forward. It keeps up the struggle and strives onward unceasingly. As a result it gets up there in the end. The next time you're tempted to quit, remember the salmon and swim on. Think about the highly oxygenated water the salmon enjoys in the swim. Kick on forward in the exhilarating upward journey toward Christ and His high calling!
Christ took hold of you for a purpose. It will be a loss to us all if you fall short of making it to the fulfilment of that purpose! God is calling you to the higher ground of His peace where His purpose in you is fulfilled. You'll make it to that higher ground if you press onward towards it, regardless of what is set out against you. 1Cor.16:9, Mic.7:8.
"Press on" and "press towards" are important phrases in what apostle Paul had to say in those verses above. They tell you how to make it to God's higher ground. Resistance and opposition to your forward movement is bound to arise. You've got to be like the salmon and keep swimming upstream. You've got to press against the flow, press against everything that would try to carry you away from Christ and His high calling. Press on in the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. Heb.10:32-39.
Like the salmon, swim on!
