How to ask
Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
1 Corinthians 10:11 - NKJV
The children of Israel left us with an example of how not to ask something of God! We have it written down in scripture for our admonition. We have it there to keep us away from such folly. In seeing what is the wrong way of saying, doing or going about something we should be able to draw a lesson from it. We ought to be able to avoid the error in our own lives. We should be able to recognise the right way.
The children of Israel camped in Rephidim (afterwards called Massah) and found themselves without water. God had brought them out of Egypt but now they faced a life threatening situation. Immediately they started grumbling and complaining to Moses, God's appointed leader. They then demanded, "Is the Lord going to take care of us or not?" What an unthankful, unholy manner to prove or to test God! What a way to ask something! They were brutishly demanding, showing no reverence or real confidence in the Lord. Ex.17:1-7.
What is the right way to ask something of God? God likes you to prove Him yet He expects reverence and trust from you. As you ask Him show Him your confidence and give Him all the honour due to Him! Worship the Father when you present to Him your petitions. Rejoice in every good thing the Lord has given to you and call on Him to make up what you are lacking. Thank Him for His goodness and remind Him of His promises - this shows your faith in them. He honours those who honour Him! Have you got a need? Be assured God's got the supply! God wants to demonstrate to you His capable care. Mal.3:10, Mar.11:22-24.
Let your requests please God
