The power of love

by Pastor Simon

While knowledge may make us feel important, it is love that really builds up the church.

1 Corinthians 8:1 - New Living Translation

It's the love of God that truly builds people up towards their full stature in Christ. The Apostle Paul wrote, "Even if I am wise with all knowledge; if I am without love, it is all no good to me." This is a truth that we need to be ever mindful of! Knowledge about God is academic and found in study but knowledge of God is experienced and discovered in God's love. 1Cor.13:2

At college I did a course in Health Education. A study was presented to us on growth in children. Two groups of children were looked at in the study. Both groups ate the same food but they did so in different settings. The first group had eaten meals in a setting characterised by quietness and care. The second group had eaten their meals in a setting where a teacher was regularly and very harshly telling them off. When the growth records for the two groups were examined the first group was found to have grown significantly more than the group who had been uncompassionately treated while eating. This lesson on physical growth has application to spiritual growth.

How are we going to see people growing up in Christ and going onwards for Christ in our churches and families? It's going to take providing a setting of love! What's going to bring this about? It's going to take us letting God's Spirit move on our hearts. Let's allow God's Spirit to pour out God's love in our hearts. Let's give Him place to clear things up in our hearts so His love can better flow through us and around us. See Ro.5:5; Eph.5:18-20; Jude 1:20-21.

Let God's love flow in you today!
