The Kingdom Experience
Our Father in heaven, May your name be held in reverence, May your Kingdom come...as in heaven, so on earth.
Matthew 6:9-10 - Barclay's translation
"Father in heaven, Your kingdom has been established for us in heaven, now let it be established among us on earth!" You can pray like that. The prayer Jesus taught us, known generally as the "Lord's prayer", is a model prayer. We ought to pray following its model. As we do, we ought to give the words of our petition a directness which relates it to our own condition and desires right now.
The psalmist David had a strong concept of God's Kingdom. He experienced God's Kingdom exerting itself over the kingdoms of men. This comes out well in the psalms. Psalms are journals. In them you see his life's low points but, always also, you see the high points as David proclaims his experience of deliverance from the Lord. So much of what he experienced came out of his prayer life. It came as he sort the Lord and requested the evidence of God's kingdom.
You can pray in that way too. You have received, through Jesus, redemption, reconciliation and covenant. Jesus offered Himself as the Lamb of God for you and in Heaven He established a new relationship for you with God. As a result, in the heavenly realm you have a part in His kingdom. God has set you up in the kingdom of His dear Son. Pray His kingdom come in your life, your home and your church. You can petition God this way and start seeing it come about! Let's thank God for all of the Kingdom we have seen in manifestation in our lives! May we come to see an even greater evidence of it as we pray! Heb.10:12-14, Col.1:13.
Lord, may I expect Your kingdom!
