Turning round poverty

by Pastor Simon

Much food is in the fallow (uncultivated) ground of the poor.

Proverbs 13:22 - NKJV

Are you in lack? The proverb above helps us out by leading us to some possible reasons why a Christian may have less than is needed! 1) You aren't recognising you've got ground that could be under cultivation. 2) You haven't laboured on your ground so it can yield. 3) You haven't taken hold of or recognised seed for sowing. Gal.6:7, Ja.3:18.

In Elisha's time a widow had creditors bearing down on her. If something didn't happen quick she was going to lose her sons to slavery. Elisha came to her cry for help and questioned, "What do you have in the house?" She couldn't see anything that amounted to much. She didn't see any seed in her possession and she didn't see any ground for cultivation. Elisha did though. He looked with the eyes of faith. He saw a little seed God had given her and a miracle of multiplication that could take place. He saw this widow's merchandising skills and recognised it as ground fit for cultivation! In God's power Elisha brought this all together and the whole awful poverty situation got turned around. Read 2 Kings 4.

God wants to do the same thing for you. God's Spirit is ready to show you the seed He has provided. As soon as you see it, start labouring on your ground making it ready for God to multiply it as you sow it. At the same time, ask God to show you the ground you have. The widow's ground was retail sales - she had a gift in sales. What's your gifting? Cultivate that ground diligently right through to harvest! 2 Corinthians 9:10

Come cultivate your fallow ground!
