Christmas preparations
He (Jesus) said to them, "Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old."
Matthew 13:52 - NKJV
One particular year my wife wanted to buy all new Christmas decorations for the house. As it happened, though, in the end we still climbed up into the attic looking for the old boxes which we'd diligently marked "Christmas" from the previous year! It wasn't surprising really, after all, we'd collected some things over the years which were worth bringing out again, the Christmas tree lights for example. Our Christmas decorations that year were a mixture of the new and the old. They all helped us tell family and friends how glad we were for Jesus' birth!
Christmas literally means "Celebration of the Anointed One". December 25th has been picked out on our calendar as a good day for Christmas - a time to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ. It's good to realise though that for us as Christians we can have a Celebration of the Anointed One every day! We should be celebrating Jesus Christ's appearance in our lives. For this we can bring out of our spiritual attics things both new and old. We have treasures both from God's Word and from the impartations of the Holy Spirit that we've received. Bring them all out of your spiritual treasury for the celebration! Heb.2:1-3.
Day by day, both on high days and plain days, pull out of your spiritual attic the good things God has given to you to benefit you. They can benefit you today. The new things and the old things together will bless you and they'll be there to wonderfully bless others also! 1 Tim.4:14.
Open up spiritual treasures both new and old!
