Let grace keep you
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Romans 6:14 - NKJV
What a wonderful announcement that scripture makes! For us now in Christ the dynamic influence of grace has replaced the cold, stone-hard wall of the Law. Grace has come to stop sin having the upper-hand in our lives. Grace has been given in Christ to help establish us in right living. Joh.1:17, Ro.10:4.
Grace will work in you as much as you let it. It will work to bring you into right living and to keep you there. Joseph Thayer describes grace as "that merciful kindness by which God exerts His holy influence on souls and turns them to Christ, keeping and strengthening them." Are you letting grace work in you? Is grace having its holy influence over you? Are you under it? If you deprive yourself of it or if you allow it to be in your life in vain then you can end up in a mess like Esau got in. Grace will keep you out of the Esau Syndrome - "trading away God's lifelong gift in order to satisfy a short-term appetite" (The Message Translation) Grace will keep you in that marvellous place where you are ever enjoying Christ's life-long gift. Heb.12:15-16.
People live in one of three zones of conduct - law, grace or profligacy. (Profligacy is knowing no restrain; debauched!) On the earth there are three separate groups of people: law people, grace people and profligate people. In Christ you want to be a grace person - that's your privilege and that's the place of your inheritance! The Spirit of God is the Spirit of grace and He urges you to grace. He calls you to His grace which He grants to you so freely. Heb.4:16.
Be a person under grace!
