Growing up in Christ

by Pastor Simon

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face.

1 Corinthians 13:11-12 - NKJV

Paul, as we read in the verse above, acknowledged a developing - not static - spiritual perception of things! He admitted that at one time he saw things childishly. At the time of writing, he recognised he was seeing things reflected as though in a opaque mirror. However, he knew that the time would come when he would see things "face to face". Are you acknowledging and looking for a developing spiritual perception like Paul?

Here's an example. I often start my salvation testimony from when I broke my neck. As a young Christian I would begin, "God had me break my neck so it would stop me long enough to think seriously about Him. If it hadn't happened I might never have come to Christ." As an older Christian, however, my spiritual perception of that event altered. God's Spirit and God's Word gave me a better illumination of what God reveals in scripture. Today I begin my testimony, "I had the most amazing recovery from a broken neck! The devil tried to kill me but God saved me. His rescue set me seeking Him!"

Many Christians are not experiencing a developing spiritual perception in their lives. In fact, the light they had countless years ago is still the same light they're making do with now. But why do with limited lighting? Your spiritual perception can develop like Paul's did. How? Position yourself open to receive Holy Spirit ministry that illuminates more and more the revelation of God given in scripture.

May you grow in Christ progressively!
