God's sacrificial Lamb!
Looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God!" The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
John 1:36-37 - NKJV
Let's do just that! It is John the Baptist who is calling out, "Behold the Lamb of God!" Let's do what he called for. Let's look on Jesus, the Lamb of God. Let's go to Jesus at the Cross and look again on what He accomplished for us there! John's call is a call to acknowledge the wonder of the Cross. 1Joh.4:10.
I have known people who would not wear a cross because they saw it as the weapon of Christ's death. In truth, however, God turned the Cross into an altar. It became God's altar of sacrifice for the Lamb whom He gave for the sins of the world! On the Cross Jesus offered Himself as the Lamb of God. He let Himself be put on that altar as a once for all sacrifice, valid forever and utterly sufficient for our salvation! Our salvation from sin was accomplished by Christ on His Cross - as the scripture says, "The Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." Joh.1:29, Isa.53:6.
What do you see at the Cross? You see the fulfilment of all that was prophesied by the prophet Isaiah in the Book of Isaiah chapter 53! In the 5th verse we read, "The chastisement for our peace was upon Him." At the Cross God laid on Jesus the sin of us all. At the Cross Jesus was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities and by His stripes we are healed. At the Cross a substitutionary sacrifice was offered for us all and by it we are set free. God has granted peace through the Cross to everyone who has accepted that sacrifice! Isa.53:4-6, Heb.10:14.
Christ's Cross - it's the power of God!
