Divine Inspiration

by Pastor Simon

The Lord said to Moses, "Who has made man's mouth?...Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say."

Exodus 4:11-12 - NKJV

Why do we get all concerned about what we are going to say? Is it because we're trying to be God's spokespersons? We're not called to be spokespersons for God. We're called to be His witnesses. A witness has the simplest job in the court. A witness just has to tell the story as he has experienced it, giving account of what he has seen and heard. What could be easier than that?

One morning after taking a few days break I was procrastinating. I needed to get down to preparing the day's devotional message but I was having trouble seeing myself with something to share. My strategy in such a situation is to open my Bible and find a promise of God related to my need. When I did this a cross reference caught my eye. I followed it and it took me to the conversation between God and Moses about Moses going back to Egypt to bring out God's people. In the margin I'd written a note. It said, "God's not looking for a spokesman, He's looking for a mouth piece!"

You may not be the greatest talker but what can you expect as a Christian when you "take the witness stand" for Jesus? You can expect the Holy Spirit to put words in your heart where they are available to your mouth. Your sincere, personal story given by this power of God's Spirit presents to people an irresistible witness of what God can do in someone's life. People hearing it will think, "If He did it for him surely He can do it for me too!" Acts 1:8.

Tell the story of what Jesus did for you!
