God's love in human hearts
Now there remains faith, hope, love; these three. But the greatest of these is this previously mentioned love. Be constantly pursuing this love, earnestly endeavouring to acquire it.
1 Corinthians 13:13 - 14:1 - Kenneth Wuest's translation
Chapter breaks can get in the way of understanding! I've given the Bible passage at the start of this devotional message ignoring the chapter break. I've missed out the chapter break and put the two halves of the teaching together. This results in a restoration of the message's uninterrupted flow and impact.
The passage flows out from the famous Love Chapter written by the apostle Paul. I heard of a missionary who started every day meditating on that chapter. This missionary wanted to ensure he was daily yielding his life to the love of God. Thank God for missionaries like that. In another place some missionaries ran the mission hospital. The nation's government got to hear of the local people's preference for using it. Wondering about this they asked the natives, "Why do you go past the government hospital and walk far onwards to the mission hospital?" The answer came back, "The medicines may be the same but the hands are different!"
What is this love that the apostle Paul so eloquently wrote about? Wuest tells us, "The Greek word here used (refers to) God's love produced in the heart of the yielded saint by the Holy Spirit." What level of response are you going to make to that love? Will you say, "Yes, I want this love - let's not neglect this love"? Or will you be stronger and more committed in your response and say, "Yes, I want this love - I will pursue this love constantly"?
May God's love be active in you!
