Up on high

by Pastor Simon

Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men.

Psalm 103:8 - NKJV

For some believers their Christian life is a roller coaster experience of ups and downs. They experience rescues and highs but they are never able to stay up in the high place. Yet it is possible to live continually in an experience of the lovingkindness of God. The psalmist shows the way when he exhorts, "Give thanks!" Thank God continuously for His goodness and for His works that are so wonderful in character towards us.

People who live sheltered in God are people who live in praise to God. They praise Him continually for His goodness and His wonderful works towards them. They recognise that God has a permanent position of love towards them and acknowledge that this moves Him to show great tenderness of mercy for them. They constantly observe how good He is and how wonderful His works are. What are God's wonderful works? They are described as "things beyond the bounds of human powers or expectations"! His wonderful works are "clear-cut exhibitions of God's capable care" for us. (Quotations: Spiros Zodhiates.)

Our generation - even our church generation - tends to be insensitive and oblivious to what God's doing. Even many Christians are so mentally restricted in vision that if God's works and goodness isn't being announced with a fanfare they're missing it. Pray, "Lord, open my spiritual eyes to see your wonderful works. Father, loose my lips to ever acknowledge them. May there be in me an ever present and ever increasing awareness of Your goodness." Be a see-er! Be a praiser! Be a worshipper of God!

Give thanks moment by moment and always!
