Good fruit, bad fruit

by Pastor Simon

Every good tree produces sound fruit, but a rotten tree produces bad fruit.

Matthew 7:17 - J.B. Phillips translation

Have you ever bought a product and later returned to the same producer for more? If you did you must have been pleased with what you got. It might have been a car. You enjoyed driving a particular car and when you needed a replacement you bought from the same producer. On the other hand, there have been the disappointments. You've probably had products that just weren't up to the job; when you came to buy again you avoided that producer.

A good product tells you that the producer must be getting things right. The product gives testimony to the producer. Jesus tells us that this common sense wisdom applies in the spiritual realm too. There are a lot of voices out there that our souls and spirits will feed on. What fruit is coming from them? Check the fruit it's having in you. Is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith and temperance showing up in your life when you watch that TV program, listen in on that discussion, go to that advice source or hear that ministry? Gal.5:22-23.

Jesus has always given you a great product in your life! The words of Jesus you've taken to heart have given you a harvest of liberty (from fear and sin), love (God's love) and life (absolute life). Keep going back to Him for more! When a whole crowd turned away from Jesus He asked Peter, "Do you also want to go away?" Peter replied, "To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life!" Let's be like Peter staying close to hear Jesus' words. Joh.6:67-68.

Fill up on the words of Jesus!
