Abraham called the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide (Heb. JHWH Yireh); as it is said to this day, 'In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.'
Genesis 22:14 - NKJV
On one particular occasion when the bills were coming in large and fast I was looking to the Lord for His encouragement about His provision. I got just the encouragement I needed by opening my Bible and reading the opening to John chapter six. It was the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. This set me singing the song, "Jehovah Jireh, my Provider!"
The song line "Jehovah Jireh" might better have been written "Yahweh Yireh". These Hebrew words JHWH Yireh mean "the Lord will provide". It is a name of God. This name comes to us from the story of Abraham when he took his son Isaac to one of the mountains of Moriah. Abraham was willing to offer up as a sacrifice His only son Isaac but the Angel of the Lord stopped him. He was left in need of an offering in that inhospitable place. In response God provided him with a ram. Abraham, in thanksgiving and acknowledgement for this provision named the place after a name of His God. He called it, "JHWH Yireh"! Gen.22.
Our God is The-Lord-Will-Provide! He provides for His people. God's people in the days after Abraham took up a saying. It was, "In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided." This made them daily aware of God as their provider. Today our sayings need to make us aware of this! When our bills look large we need a reminder of God as our provider. He is Jahweh Yireh. He fed Elijah at the Brook Cherith. (1 Kgs.17:5-6) He fed the children of Israel with manna. (Exo.16.) God will provide for you!
Our God is Jahweh Yireh!
