I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.

Psalm 91:2 - NKJV

For years as a young Christian I could only look on in wonder at Psalm 91. Psalm 91 is a running sequence of promises of God's protection. It's like a series of word pictures portraying protection for a believer's life. Somehow, though, I wasn't experiencing myself as a full participant in that protection plan.

What was separating me from that experience? I believed the promises but I hadn't personalised the promises it gave! I hadn't taken them to my heart and I hadn't taken up the part I had to perform. I was, in reality, viewing them as what could be someday for someone instead of what can be now for me. Finally, thank the Lord, I heard inspired preaching from someone who was living in and experiencing Psalm 91. This woke me up to what I was missing out on. From that moment in our home, as a family, we let Psalm 91 become our psalm and a picture of the conditions meant to prevail for us!

What can you do to experience Psalm 91's promises fulfilled? Say it out loud. Read it and say it as an affirmation. Notice that this is what the psalmist did. He declared in verse two, "I will say of the Lord" and then he professed who God was to him. This is what you need to do - speak aloud of the special relationship you have with the Father through Jesus. Next proclaim to yourself and all creation the Psalm's plenteous and wide-ranging promises! It will become for you your proclamation of God's faithfulness and lovingkindness.

Speak of the Lord's faithfulness!
