Words Matter

by Pastor Simon

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted, but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

Proverbs 11:11 - NKJV

The words both of the righteous and the wicked have a profound effect on our towns and cities. The words the wicked speak can bring your town down whereas your words can promote it to honour. When we speak blessings our towns and neighbourhoods are lifted up to be places of good report. Whereas if we leave the field of vocal expression to the wicked they can go steadily down hill!

The church I pastor has a church hall in a residential area. It is an area which has in the past received bad reports. When we first began meeting there the residents regularly voiced complaints about local youth behaviour. Things have moved on a long way since then. Before our eyes there has been a clear change towards greater peace and well-being in the neighbourhood. What has made the difference? Our church has been meeting there. We've been blessing the Lord in worship. We've been speaking a blessing over each other. We've been speaking a blessing over the area.

Are you unhappy about how things are in your town or neighbourhood? If so, use your mouth to change things! Vocally bless the Lord! Speak God's peace into the area and into people's lives! Adopt a Christian lifestyle of thanksgiving and blessing. Thanksgiving and blessing can be a powerful influence for well-being where you live. In the same way, this can happen in your home too. Let there be a predominance of blessing among you and the members of your household. At all times, be blessing the Lord and blessing one another! Watch what your blessing can do! Psa.34:1-3.

Let blessing promote the city!
