Spiritual fitness
Take time and trouble to keep yourself spiritually fit. Bodily fitness has a limited value, but spiritual fitness is of unlimited value, for it holds promise for this present life and for the life to come.
1 Timothy 4:8 - J.B. Phillips' translation
Whether you're an athlete or a Christian (or both) there's a contest! As a Christian you face the contest of this life! The Christian who wins through in his contest is the one who keeps himself spiritually fit, skilled and flexible. Can you take the knocks and come out stronger? Can you extend your step over onto the next solid spot? Can reach out far enough to take hold of God provision? Are you spiritually fit enough for living life at a higher level of faith and understanding? 2Tim.3:16-17, Eph.6:10, Heb.5:14.
In my teens I was a gymnast. In training, besides working out with weights and learning skills, we also did stretching exercises developing suppleness (flexibility). We kept up our level of suppleness by a program of regular stretching exercises. This was because we needed as gymnasts to be able to achieve maximum positions of extension in our movements. With the same diligence we also worked at our skills and level of strength. This was how we kept physically fit.
How do you keep yourself spiritually fit? 1) Keep yourself under grace as your trainer. Tit.2:11-12. 2) Give patience a work out each time tribulation shows up! Face the tribulation you are confronted with with good cheer. Exert your power to see things through! Ja.1:4. 3) Your Bible time should be a daily spiritual gym work out for your faculties! Have your senses exercised by God's Word. Heb.4:16.
Keep fit for God and His kingdom!
