Christ our Master

by Pastor Simon

I said to the LORD, "You are my Master! All the good things I have are from you."

Psalm 16:2 - NLT

I was seeking in prayer for how I ought to be acknowledging Jesus. I felt I ought to be recognising more who He is and what He does for us. It was at this that I was directed in the quiet of my heart by the Holy Spirit to the scripture above. As I read it I heard His still, small voice within me say, "Jesus is not just LORD (YHWH), He is also Master!" Jesus is Master over His household. We are the family members of that household. Jesus sits at the head of the table and we are children of the table. Jesus sets before us His provision.

This blessed condition we are in is illustrated in the Bible by a story. It is the story of King David and Mephibosheth. Mephibosheth was a forgotten cripple but he was the son of Jonathan the son of King Saul. It was Jonathan with whom David made covenant. David diligently sought for a descendant of Jonathan and when he found Mephibosheth he called him to his table. Then David declared, "Mephibosheth shall eat bread at my table always!" 2 Samuel 9.

This is what Jesus has declared over us! We are called to the Lord's table and given the privilege sitting with Him at His table eating His provision always. Enjoy His provision. In your devotional time with the Lord recognise Him as both Lord and Master. Let the essence of your prayer time be that of worship and devotion. Commune with the Son as Lord and Master and make prayer requests of the Father in Jesus' precious name. Phil.4:19.

Fellowship with Jesus at His table!
