Preaching the Gospel
My speech and my preaching were not couched in specious (seeming right or true but not really so) words of philosophy but were dependent for their efficacy upon a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, in order that your faith should not be resting in human philosophy but in God's power.

If you are an active believer, you are communicating something of the Gospel by your comments and responses. Even in talking about quite ordinary issues you do this. Nevertheless, words alone are not enough! The Gospel related words people hear from you have a faith-building effect only when in your life is seen also a demonstration of the Spirit and of power.
My wife and I praise God that our children have received from us working faith. For example, the first time our eldest son, Ben, got his own earned income he gave a tithe on it. He said, "I don't want to miss the opportunity I have of proving the Lord with my tithe and getting protection and a blessing." Ben had heard me preach on the tithe. What brought him to give a tithe, though, was the demonstration of the benefit of tithing he'd seen in our lives. The younger children have since followed suit in this. Mal.3:10-11.
Does your life have a heavenly ring to it? This is what's needed if those around you are to receive your words and by them receive faith. Some years ago I rang my father, who was not at that time an active believer. He picked up the phone and on hearing me said, "I knew it was you. The phone had that heavenly ring!" Humour, yes, but it encouraged me. It let me know my life was making the right noises, rather than just my mouth saying the right words.
