What manner of spirit?
But He (Jesus) turned and rebuked them (the disciples James and John), and said, "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of."
Luke 9:55 - NKJV
Jesus had to confront his disciples, James and John. He said, "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of!" They should have been of the Holy Spirit but, without realising it, they'd got into another spirit! It is not automatic that God's people stay in the right spirit - the example of the disciples in that incident shows this.
Have you ever observed the effect some people have on you? For example, at one extreme, you can go away from someone feeling quite battered while, at the other extreme, you can go away from someone feeling absolutely blessed. Why does this happen? Often it's not so much what that person said but rather how he or she was! How you felt depended on what manner of spirit they were of. The manner of spirit someone is in determines the fruit you get from them. Someone in the Holy Spirit has the fruit of the Spirit. Pray for those you meet who are in the wrong spirit. Ask the Lord to awaken them by His Spirit to bring their lives over into the sphere of the right spirit - the Holy Spirit! Gal.5:22-23, 1Cor.13:13.
What fruit is it you are carrying that others partake of? The fruit you have depends on the spirit you are of. Take time to examine your condition. What condition of soul are you in? The fruit tells what manner of spirit you are of. Praise God, you don't have to stay in the wrong spirit. You can take action to get back into God's Spirit. You'll have to go to God in prayer. You'll need to recall your faith basics. You'll need to get your life refilled with the Holy Spirit. Eph.5:18-21.
