Spiritual discernment

by Pastor Simon

You foolish Galatians! who has bewitched you - before whose very eyes was portrayed Jesus Christ crucified!

Galatians 3:1 - Weymouth's translation

There is spiritual foolishness even in the church! How do you keep yourself untouched and unmoved by it? You look for spiritual discernment. Spiritual discernment comes by the Holy Spirit. It's our responsibility as Christians to cultivate our spiritual discernment! 1Cor.12:1-11.

How do you cultivate spiritual discernment? You cultivate it in the garden of God's Word. You go and plant yourself in the good soil that is God's Word. Not, though, like some who have sought out the most obscure corner and planted themselves in the rarest of soil. Instead go for the central ground and plant yourself where the soil is known throughout God's Word, the places where the message of God's dependability, constancy, mercy and grace are found. In this way, you're putting yourself in a place where you can grow straight and tall. Plant yourself in the fertile scripture soil. 2Tim.2:15.

Yes, there are patches of exacting, unusual soil in scripture but it is a person lacking in wisdom who tries to plant himself there. Get yourself planted in the sure, widespread soils of scripture and one day you'll grow tall enough to look out over the surrounding Bible terrain at the rare soils too. You'll grow strong and sturdy enough in the sure soils to have such a vantage point of the rare soil that you can look over and see what it has to offer. Your spiritual discernment will flourish with your life planted in good word soil! Heb.13:9.

May God bless you with keen spiritual discernment!
