Living for God

by Pastor Simon

They said to Him, What are we to do as a habit of life in order that we may continually be working the works of God? Answered Jesus and said to them, This is the work of God, that you continually be believing on Him whom that One sent off on a mission.

John 6:28-29 - Wuest's Expanded Translation

The people asked a what-are-we-to-do question and Jesus answered them fully. The translation I've used above brings out a greater dimension to its lesson than we usually get. He told them what habit of their life would be taken as continually working the works of God.

The people asked, "What are we to do as a habit of life in order that we may continually be working the works of God?" Jesus' reply in paraphrase was, "Continually be believing on Me." This tells me I need to stir up my believing! It's an easy thing to say, "I believe in Jesus" but you need to stir up genuine believing. Genuine believing on Jesus is putting the weight of all your trust on Him regarding all things in your life. Genuine believing comes out of a vibrant relationship with Jesus in which you are daily aware of His presence with you and for you. 1Tim.1:5.

Spending time honouring Jesus is a great way to revitalise your believing on Him! Step aside from the busyness of your day and begin thanking Jesus for all He is to you and all He has been for you. Make a list or get a list of the titles given to Jesus in the Bible - like "Lamb of God", "Advocate with the Father" and "Great Shepherd". Use these titles as a guide for your thanksgiving. Spend 5 or 10 minutes doing this and you'll find you'll have a completely renewed vitality about your believing on Him! Joh.5:23.

Get the believing-on-Jesus habit!
