But He turned and rebuked them, and said, "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of."

Luke 9:55 - NKJV

What is it that brought this strong response from Jesus? The disciples were asking for the go ahead to command fire from heaven to fall on the villagers! Their proposal was completely at odds with why Jesus came to the earth and to their village. The disciples were offended by the villagers. What they wanted to do was coming out from a spirit of offence that was finding place with them!

You say, "Thank God, we never get like that!" Maybe not. Perhaps we don't get so far out of it as to propose such a wrong thing. However, how about when we do the desirable thing but in an undesirable spirit, namely, doing it begrudgingly or roughly? What manner of spirit are we in then? The fruit of the spirit is missing there, isn't it? Oh, how we need that fruit! The fruit of the spirit enables us to function as heaven's citizens in spite of, and in the midst of, earth's stresses and ugly incidents! Gal.5:22-23.

I want to be a blessing to people, don't you? In the Holy Spirit I have the fruit of the spirit and by it people get blessed. I am ever in need of an abundance of that fruit! How exciting then that we can have that fruit by getting and remaining in God's Spirit. It offers to people around us love, joy, peace, longsuffering and more! We can be a blessing by getting into God's Spirit and having the fruit of the spirit in our lives! Review today what that fruit is and pray for a restoration of it in abundance in your life! 2Pet.1:5-8.

By the fruit of the Spirit you'll be a blessing!
