Freedom is for you

by Pastor Simon

He who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

James 1:25 - NKJV

What's this "perfect law of liberty" in the verse above? It's an absolute principle that makes you free! Jesus taught his disciples how it operates. He said, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Joh.8:31-32.

How can you get to enjoy the freedom that principle offers? James tells us in his letter. In essence he teaches, "Hear actively what God's Word declares to the degree that you become one who's doing it. Then the blessing of liberty will come." James tells it plainly enough but why do we still fall short of it? Because it requires a different style of reading than most people are used to! Think how you read. Probably you read like you were taught at school - you read for information or entertainment. God's Spirit looks for something else from your reading style when it comes to God's Word. He wants you to read for revelation. He wants you to receive revelation of the plans, precepts and principles of God as you read.

Here's a guide to reading like that: 1.) Read scripture aloud - looking to catch in your voice the sense of the passage. 2.) Give all the words and phrases value - nothing is simply there for decoration. 3.) Take what's said personally - be ready to hear what the Word is saying as a personal message to you. 4.) Reflect on whatever God's Spirit particularly draws your attention to - then determine how to respond to it in your life. See Neh.8:8, Ps.12:6, Ps.84:8, Mat.7:24-27.

The law of liberty can set you free
