Encouragement
David was greatly distressed, for the men spoke of stoning him because the souls of them all were bitterly grieved, each man for his sons and his daughters. But David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
1 Samuel 30:6 - The Amplified Bible - NKJV
I don't know about you but I find every day that comes brings its own challenges. Each morning I realise that if my day is going to amount to anything then I'm going to have to squarely face those challenges. To do this I need fresh courage. At the beginning of my day, fresh courage is something I'm seeking in prayer. I'm looking for encouragement. I'm looking for the entrance of courage from the Lord into my life. God's courage and strength is what I need for my day! Josh.1:9.
At Ziglag the psalmist and future king, David found himself desperately in need of much encouragement. Read again the scripture above. David had arrived home to find total mayhem with his wife and children gone and his home burned to the ground. Besides this, the men who had accompanied him on his campaigns were turning against him out of bitter grief. What could he do? Nothing until he encouraged himself in the Lord.
It takes courage to pick yourself up and soldier on. But a soldier in Christ is what you're called to be. You may be taking flak and maybe you've even suffered wounds yet there is a battle before you to fight and the promise of a great victory. You can have the victory today. Take courage and receive strength in the Lord! Encourage and strengthen yourself in the Lord your God. In worship, commune with your Heavenly Father and let yourself be encouraged in His presence. 2Tim.2:3, 2Cor.2:14
Take courage in your God!
