Hope for life

by Pastor Simon

Your patient endurance under trials which finds its source in your hope which rests in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God, even the Father.

1 Thessalonians 1:3 - Wuest's translation

Patient endurance sounds like something we could all do with a good measure of! Such endurance has its source in divine hope. Some years ago we were planning on going to a Christian convention but departure time was getting close and we still didn't have the money needed. I was getting agitated. There was some money due in but no sign of it. I took this to Lord in prayer. He replied, "Your hope is resting in that money. It should be resting in Me!" Psa.62:5

Hope that rests anywhere else than in Jesus is hope of this world, not divine hope! There is a hope originating in this world. Operating in that hope can get you by for a while but the moment things start to unravel and fall apart in your life then that hope provides no power for patient endurance. Divine hope anchors your soul so you can endure with patience and joy. What's more it always comes through for you. When the Lord showed me my hope was misplaced then I repented, set my hope resting in the Lord and within a very short time the money I needed arrived. Heb.6:19.

Divine hope is not imparted to you by an optimistic view of unfolding circumstances but rather by God's Spirit through God's Word. Spend time each day reflecting on God's Word. Commune with God's Spirit over God's promises. Give the Holy Spirit time to get you resting in hope because of the promises you hear. His hope will anchor your soul. In His hope you will walk steadfastly in expectation of God's answer arriving soon. Rom.15:13.

Have your hope in Jesus Christ!
