Learning to pray

by Pastor Simon

Therefore, as for you, in this manner be praying: Our Father who is in heaven, let your Name be venerated.

Matthew 6:9 - Wuest's Translation

Every sincere Christian wants to know more about prayer. Jesus gave "The Lord's Prayer" as a model prayer to help answer this desire. It's a prayer that needs praying with passion. How do you get a passion about it? By allowing your passion to be stirred by what the words of the prayer are communicating. These are significant words that ought to excite your heart with what they are declaring and requesting.

In Wuest's translation "Let Your Name be venerated" is the opening request of the prayer. What does that word "venerated" mean? It means to regard with special and affectionate respect. Isn't that way of regarding His Name what we want from ourselves? Isn't that how we long to see others regarding the Father's name? His name represents all that He is. What is He? Who is He? He is the Creator of all things. He is the Source of all life. He is ever present in this time-defined world and yet He Himself exists beyond the confines of time. Gen.14:22.

Where there is an inner revelation of God as both God Almighty and Heavenly Father the life of the one possessing that revelation is transformed! Faith, hope and the love of God become dynamic in power and influence in a person's life with that revelation. Pray that request for yourself and for your loved ones. You might want to pray it the way The Message Bible translates that part of the Lord's prayer, "Our Father in heaven, reveal who You are." This is what we need and more of it! Phil.3:8-11, Joh.14:9.

Pray Jesus' model prayer passionately!
