Accept forgiveness

by Pastor Simon

Then Samuel said to the people, "Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart."

1 Samuel 12:20 - NKJV

"Give us a king," the people wilfully insisted. In response God showed Samuel a man to anoint as king. At the coronation Samuel said to the people. "Yes you've messed up but, believing in God's mercy, cling to Him!" (My paraphrase.) Now that's a message that addresses our human insecurity with the good news of God's fidelity. When our sin becomes evident to us our human reaction is to hide from the Lord's presence. Nevertheless God's supernatural character beckons us to stay and find forgiveness!

This was all beyond Adam and Eve. After their sin they turned away and hid themselves from God's presence. They were afraid. They had heard of judgement for disobedience. They knew nothing of what was beyond judgement - mercy, lovingkindness and forgiveness. God had to call them. He had to show them that beyond the judgement they had brought on themselves for disobedience was His unfailing love for them. Gen.3:6-21

God knows your sin but for Jesus' sake He forgives you. He loves you still. He knows that away from Him there is only futility for you - no profit and no deliverance. Yet His desire for you is to have fulfilment - completeness and total well-being in Him. Resort to Him. Instead of turning away at the point of your sin, turn back for forgiveness and begin afresh in following and fellowship. Escape from futility in life and find fulfilment in Christ!

Follow the Lord with all your heart!
