Children are a blessing

by Pastor Simon

From the mouth of infants and nursing babes Thou hast established strength, Because of Thine adversaries, To make the enemy and the revengeful cease.

Psalms 8:2 - New American Standard Bible

"Sometimes the grace of God appears wonderfully in young children," Matthew Henry wrote this in his commentary on Psalm 8. This is certainly something I have experienced in my life. On many occasions it has happened in my family that one of the children has been used of God to draw our attention to something important or to speak encouragement. It is a wonderful thing that as Christians we have children who can be led by God's Spirit. Isa.44:3-4, 59:21.

For example, some years ago a medium-size, rear window of our church hall was smashed. At the breakfast table I was telling my children about it when my son John said, "The mess at the back of the Hall has been attracting that sort of problem!" I knew on the inside he was right. I replied, "John, you've got it. We must clear it all up." Sadly, we delayed and things got worse but as soon as we dealt with the mess those troubles stopped.

Be open to God ministering through children. Be ready to hear words of clarity, wisdom or grace that God might give to them. Perhaps it won't come through some profound expression. Sometimes it is just an innocent expression or comment a child makes that can shut up the enemy voice or shut down his revengeful ways. Be a Christian who esteems the children and their contribution. In doing this you might be surprised how the children will blossom before your eyes at your new relationship of consideration towards them!

Bless and be blessed by children!
