Sarah's daughters
You have now become Sarah's daughters, if you continue to live well, and if you refuse to allow anything to reduce you to frightened panic.
1 Peter 3:6 - Barclay's Translation
Be seen as a spiritual daughter of Sarah. The apostle Peter wrote that women who live well and refuse to let anything reduce them to frightened panic are Sarah's daughters. I give thanks to God that my wife, Ruth, is like that. It seems no matter what happens she continues to live well. She doesn't let anything reduce her to frightened panic. Ruth keeps her eyes on Jesus. She looks to Him as her Shepherd and lets Him keep her in perfect peace. Isa.26:3.
Panic, fear and even anxiety or worry are enemies to you. If you allow them to come in and find place in you they will rob you of a sound mind. Give them place and they will distort your perception of things. Give them space to develop and they will take over driving the life vehicle you're in. They will get in the driving seat and take you off the route God has you on towards peace and blessing. Succumbing to fear or anxiety draws trouble. That's because they give a signal to trouble that you're vulnerable. This is why Jesus declared His peace as granted to you. He commanded you not to fear and not to worry. Mat.6:31, Isa.41:10, Job 3:25-26, Joh.14:27.
How do you go about guarding yourself from panic, fear and anxiety? Firstly, you must take to heart until you know by heart the exhortations and promises of God about fear. (See 2 Tim.1:7) Secondly, pray against fear. (See Psa.64:1) Thirdly, refuse to react to news; instead respond to the ever ready and freely available comfort of God's word and Spirit. (See Psa.112:6-8) Fourthly, let God know your requests. (See Phil.4:6)
