Getting to know God!

by Pastor Simon

He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He.

Deuteronomy 32:4 - NKJV

"Would God allow someone to get into sin," I was asked in an email, "so you are provided with a way to get what you want!" "God is not a man," I responded succinctly, "that He should play such games with people's lives!" Clearly, the dear one who asked the question was in need of direction towards bringing her to a more accurate picture of God.

Many Christians do not have a properly formed picture of God. Too often people have formed their idea of God by likening Him to how man is. Why do people superimpose the attributes and conduct of degenerate man on to God in His perfection? What we should all do is receive a revelation of how God is from the words of His prophets as they are delivered to us by God's Spirit. It's time to see God in just the way His Word shows Him. This takes a commitment to pondering God's word like the psalmist had. The psalmist declared, "I will meditate on the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on Your wondrous works." Psa.145:5.

Make the revelation of God's character, as you find it in His Word, the subject of your spiritual pondering! Men and women of God were moved in times past by the Holy Spirit to record it for you in the Bible. They wrote down the majestic and perfect picture of God that the Spirit had revealed to them. May the same inner picture of God that the prophets had become your inner picture of Him too. Start from the verse I've given above! Psa.1:1-3.

The glory of God is visible in His word!
