Good carries you from evil

What a great way of expressing that well-known scripture! Eugene Peterson's choice of words in his translation of the New Testament evokes powerful imagery. The very first time I read that verse in his translation I got a picture. I saw someone with a hand on the back of a pick-up truck. He was running from evil and he'd got hold of the back of the truck - any moment he was going to get a foot on it and he'd be away leaving evil to eat dust! Good is a vehicle for you to depart from evil with!
Hang on to good. Good is your rescue from evil, specifically, the evil that tries to find a place with you. What is this good we need to depart on from evil? Micah tells us, "He has shown you, O man, what is good." What has God shown us is good? Jeremiah explains, "It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord." The psalmist adds, "It is good for me to draw near to God." And afterwards he proclaims, "It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness and Your faithfulness." Mic.6:8, Psa.73:28, Psa.92:1-2.
Are you tempted with evil? Get so busy with the things of God that evil can't get near you! The evil that would try to find place in your life will be overcome by the good that the Lord has shown you. 1) Get into giving thanks to the Lord and declaring His lovingkindness and faithfulness! 2) Sing His praises! 3) Hope in God and with patience look to Him for His salvation! 4) Call upon Him and He'll provide you with a way of escape! Ja.1:13-15, 1Cor.10:13.
