God is our refuge
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. He shall cover you with His feathers and under His wings you shall take refuge.
Psalm 91:1,4 - NKJV
Rejoice that you have a place of refuge with God in this world full of dangers and pressures. You don't have to stay out in the storm - whether it be of wind, hail, fire or whatever. You can continually resort to God as chicks resort to the shelter of their mother's wings. You have with God a place of peace and safety that is very special and very private to the children of God. Luk.13:34, Prov.18:10.
When I read the verses in Psalm 91 about the covering of the Lord's wings I picture a hen and her chicks. Have you ever seen hens in the farm yard with their chicks? The chicks run around the yard following the mother hen and always staying in close proximity to her. The moment there is any hint of danger they run right under her wings and take refuge there. The chicks disappear completely out of sight. They only emerge again after they've check to see that everything is safe.
A dear sister in Christ testified, "I am safe in the shadow of the Almighty." Then she added, "We usually think of shadow as dark and uninviting but the shadow of the Almighty is so different." I replied, "Yes, you're right! You are safe and the shadow is different." The shadow of the Lord is a light shadow - it casts a shadow of light. The prophet Malachi declared, "To you who fear the name of the Lord the Sun of Righteousness will arise with healing in His wings". The Sun of Righteousness has wings that shelter us in the Light of God! 1Joh.1:5 and Ja.1:17.
