Joy in the Holy Spirit

by Pastor Simon

At that very hour He rejoiced exceedingly, this rejoicing being energised by the Holy Spirit, and said, I give praise to you, openly and from the heart, Father.

Luke 10:21 - Wuest's Expanded Translation

Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit! It's one thing to rejoice over how things look it's another to rejoice in the Spirit. Learning to rejoice in the Spirit will greatly benefit you. It will take your rejoicing up to the realm of the Spirit. Rejoicing energised by the Holy Spirit has an enduring, deep character about it.

During Jesus ministry He sent the seventy disciples out to minister and they returned rejoicing. What level, though, was this rejoicing at? It was at a human level for they were rejoicing over the power they'd exercised. Jesus pulled them up about this. He said in essence, "Go deeper for your rejoicing!" He told them to rejoice over what God had done for them in Heaven. Why did He do that? Because there's a danger to having your rejoicing set in the realm your physical senses can perceive. It can mean that when all physical evidence tells you there's no reason to rejoice you run out of rejoicing! Luk.10:20.

Get into the habit of rejoicing in the Spirit! In your prayer life go deeper, go on with your prayer confessions until the revelation of what God has done bursts out in your heart and your spirit is energised to rejoicing by the Holy Spirit! Do this and you'll be able to rejoice when rejoicing is really important. Moments like Paul and Silas found themselves in, moments of persecution and moments of severe trial. Acts 16:22-34.
