Your hurt and your recovery

by Pastor Simon

I pray that you may be kept sound in spirit, soul and body, for then you will be blameless, when our Lord Jesus Christ comes. You can rely on him who called you to do this for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 - William Barclay's translation

Your emotional hurts are as real as physical ones. At times it happens that people to whom we committed much in the form of trust and expectation end up, intentionally or unintentionally, disappointing and hurting us. If this has happened to you, have you found recovery and healing from that emotional hurt?

There is a close relationship between spirit, soul and body. Your emotions are a central part of your soul. The condition of your soul effects your body. There is also a strong relationship between spirit and soul. Your spirit, for example, may be ready to move with God but emotional damage of soul can prevent it. This is what you experience when you hear from God, want to go with it but then something rises up within to prevent you. This is comparable to your arms getting injured. Your body can't properly pick up and carry an object until they recover. In the same way, there has to be recovery from emotional injury before you can readily carry forward something of God.

Where will your healing for damaged emotions come from? It will come through a work of God's Spirit. It will require you to cast yourself on the Lord's care so He can start to heal you. How do you position yourself to let Him do this? Firstly, by the power of God's love in your heart forgive the person who hurt you and let the matter drop. Secondly, welcome the grace of God to dissolve the roots of hurt and offence that had sprang up in your life.

With God there is emotional healing!
