Communing with God

by Pastor Simon

Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

Luke 5:12 - NKJV

Awhile ago a visitor to my web site responded, "I am printing out your work on the baptism in the Holy Spirit. I am going away for a couple of days to pray and will be taking it with me to look over." I enjoyed hearing that. It was good he planned on studying my class in detail but what I enjoyed most was that here was someone who so valued prayer that he was taking a couple of days away to really get into it!

Your quick petitions prayed in faith to the Father in the midst of your day get heard and answered. Yet that alone won't engage Heaven to its fullest in all that ought to be taken care of in your life. Think how it is in the world. People in the world are glad they can pop into their doctor's surgery and in a fleeting visit get a prescription to help against their illness. Yet they appreciate it even more if they can get in a longer visit with their doctor to go over in depth the health issues they're facing. In this way they often come away with not just a prescription for the pain but also a strategy for putting their physical health right in the long term. This is how our thinking about prayer time with God should be!

There's a need in all our lives for extended times of communion with God in prayer. You'll be amazed how things start to turn around for you when you start having quality, extended communing-in-prayer time with God! Perhaps you can't make it a couple of days long, but how about an hour or two in your week or half an hour in your day?

Take quality, extended time out to pray!
