A foundation of confidence
Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.
Psalm 62:8 - NKJV
Faith, trust and confidence are your spiritual legs! They bring you into God's presence. They take you close to Him where you can let Him know all that's on your heart. It is no surprise then that Jesus started off His teaching on effective prayer with the words, "Have faith in God". Mar.11:22.
Prepare to pray before you pray! What happens if you go straight into praying without preparation? Often you end up praying on a basis of desperation instead of faith. On such a basis, you pour out your heart to God with no direction to it. What this results in is that your words come across more like a big groan than a real petition. This is why the scripture above first says, "Trust in Him" before it exhorts you to pour out your heart. It then ends by reminding you, "God is a refuge for us"! So prepare yourself to pray. How do you do that? You open your Bible to a psalm or other Bible passage in which God is praised. Then you read it aloud and reflect on it. Let this lead you into worship. Psa.1:2.
The Lord knows what is on your heart. He sees your concerns, your hurts and your desires. He's waiting on you to present them all to Him. In His great love and compassion for you He wants to handle all your concerns for you. He wants to comfort you, heal you and soothe away all your hurts. He wants to fulfil all your desires. It's the Father's joy to respond to you as you call on His help in confidence. Psa.37:4.
Call on God in the confidence His Word provides!
