Incline your ear
Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; incline Your ear to me, and save me.
Psalm 71:2 - NKJV
Sometimes as Christians we copy the psalmist and pray, "Lord, incline Your ear to me." There's nothing wrong with that. To match our request, though, how quick are we to incline our ear to Him? We want God to save us. Yet, the best way of seeing this happen is for us to be the ones who incline our ears to Him. What does it mean to incline your ear? It's having an inclination to do what you hear! Those who do that experience God's rescue. Prov.4:20.
The story of Cornelius, the centurion, is an encouraging one. God inclined His ear to Cornelius. God responded to Cornelius because of the way he so readily expressed his devotion towards Him. God sent Peter to his house to preach the Gospel and as a result, Cornelius and all his household were saved. Similarly in the life of David we read how God answered, delivered and prospered him. It wasn't that David was perfect - there is serious sin recorded against him in scripture. What, then, was it that caused God to be excited about David and to get behind him? It was this, in complete trust David would move on what God called for from him in his life! Acts 10, Acts 13:22.
Hear from God with an inclination to do what you hear! Trust Him enough to release matters into His hands and then praise Him in the joy of faith. This sets you up in a wonderful liberty to be strongly inclined to do what you hear God calling on you to do. It is in doing that that God is inclined to do what He hears from you. Phil.1:25.
If you want His ear, give Him yours!
