Music and prophecy

by Pastor Simon

Elisha said, "Now bring me a musician." Then it happened, when the musician played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him. And he (prophesied)...

2 Kings 3:14-16 - NKJV

Heaven's music gets your spirit opening to the Holy Spirit. Heaven's music encourages your spirit to open to the Holy Spirit like a flower opening to the rising sun. The music of heaven prepares your heart to drink of the Holy Spirit and to get under His influence. Paul, in the knowledge of this, exhorted us to get wholly under the Spirit's influence by "singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord". Your spirit can soar heaven-ward as you praise God in song. Songs of God create an unusual openness of our hearts to the Holy Spirit and His ministry. Eph.5:18-19, 1 Sam.16:23.

Music - singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs - can be just what you need to take you into the realm of God's Spirit. It's in the realm of God's Spirit where you receive His direction! Elisha experienced this. He needed to hear from God in a situation where he was emotionally upset at someone. He called for a musician so as to get in the Spirit. Similarly I've experienced this. One particular time I was stuck over how to solve problem with a ministry web site project. I took a break and I started to praise the Lord in song. As I sang the solution I needed dawned within me.

Start your devotional times this week by singing a psalm or scripture-based song. This spiritual singing to the Lord can bring to you a special infilling of God's Spirit. It's in such a condition of Holy Spirit infilling that God can provide you with the answers and direction you need right now. He can also by it set you in motion towards greater well-being in Him.

Sing spiritual songs to the Lord!
