They caught nothing!
Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We are going with you also." They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.
John 21:3 - NKJV
Peter headed off on a fishing trip with his friends. They ended up spending a night away with nothing to show for it in the morning. They had caught nothing. Thank God Jesus came on the scene to direct their fishing for a late and great catch. Afterwards Jesus stayed awhile to get them spiritually back on track.
Have you been through a catch-less night of labour? If so, maybe it's been for the same reason as Peter. Peter had lost the thread of things. His disappointment at things not turning out the way he'd expected had made him restless. He got impatient waiting for God's purposes to unfold. This caused him to head off on a natural pursuit. Peter allowed his soul to turn him back to activities with which he was familiar, away from his new lifestyle of living by faith! What about you? Has disappointment made you restless and pushed you back to your old ways? Once unsettled your soul, if not brought into check by your spirit, will take you back to the natural ways and the largely unfruitful ways you used to follow. Ro.8:25.
Don't allow your soul to lead you away from your new lifestyle of faith! Don't allow your soul to turn you back to activities you were previously familiar with and in which there is no fruit in Christ. Hear the voice of Jesus calling you back to the way of the Spirit. Have a Word meal with Jesus and get restarted on His course for your life. Pick back up the projects God's Spirit has directed in your life. 2Cor.4:16-18
By faith your ways will be fruitful!
