Don't retain it!

by Pastor Simon

If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.

John 20:23 - NKJV

A very large part of our lives is spent around people. You can be sure, as a result, that there will be times when those you meet don't behave as they ought to. This hurts or offends you and considering what they've done you may feel justified in how you're reacting to it. How long though are you going to let the wrongful acts of another have an affect on your life?

By forgiving sins in others and with that letting it drop you are not retaining the aftermath of those sins in your life. Instead you are freeing yourself to move on without carrying the damage or the wound. So often your emotional and mental well-being depends on your willingness to forgive and let drop. Further, your liberty from hurt and offence positions you to be able to deposit those who've sinned against you with God. What should you do when you're sinned against? Forgive, let resentment drop and deposit the one who wronged you with God. When God gets someone on His hands He begins to move on their lives. Once you commit someone to the Lord His holy influence comes on them drawing them to salvation and towards a turn around to godly ways.

You may be mad at that person right now but in your heart don't you want to see him or her changed and saved? Your negative attitude towards him or her won't bring about change but God's grace can. God's grace can save the sinner from the way of death. God's grace can rehabilitate the profligate (reprobate, degenerate, unprincipled). Don't get down at the way people are behaving! Rise above it! Live as a citizen of the Heaven revelling in the fruit of the Spirit!

Forgive and let it drop!
