Finding success

by Pastor Simon

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6 - NKJV

The challenge of every new day is to turn good intentions into actions! In my church there'll be a candle light service on New Year's Eve. It will be a time when members testify of their thanksgiving for the past year and their special hopes for the New Year. What success will we have turning our good intentions into actions in the New Year?

How NOT to be successful in your life as a Christian - push on and through in your own strength and wisdom! The Bible tells us the stories of two men who were kings of Israel that illustrate this well. Those men were Saul and David. Their stories demonstrate what makes for genuine success and what causes failure for God's people. In the case of Saul, he relied on his own judgement and leaned heavily on his own might. As a tragic consequence of this his future went badly wrong. In contrast, David took refuge in God. He made God his strength and he consulted God constantly on how to act. As a result, his future became glorious from which many came to benefit. 1 Sam.13; 1 Chron.14:8-17.

I'm sure you are looking for things to turn out well for you, aren't you? If so, make a commitment to walk and talk with God today and every day. Commit yourself to making God the one to whom you resort for wisdom in all things. Make Him the one you consult over everything you're doing or planning on doing. Let Him be the one you look to for your strength and for your resources. Do this through prayer, meditating on God's word and a relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Make your day a God day!
