Laughter
A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.
Proverbs 17:22 - NKJV
One morning as I drove up to school with our son Arthur a boy was running along the pavement just ahead of us. "That's Fat Sam," my son informed me. I was speechless. I was momentarily in a sort of shock. Then I said, "Arthur, that's not a very nice way of calling someone." "No," he explained, "that's the part he's playing in the school play. We're putting on 'Bugsy Malone'!" I had a good laugh at my silly misunderstanding.
I enjoy a good laugh. My family enjoys a good laugh. In the evening I related my funny mistake at meal time and everyone laughed and I got to laugh twice at the same incident. This reminds me of a dear Swiss sister in the Lord I knew years ago who always got to laugh three times at every joke that was told. She laughed once because everyone was laughing at the joke, once when she thought she understood the joke and once more when she finally really did understand the joke! Ecc.3:4.
Laughter does you good. Life is sprinkled liberally with opportunities for laughter. People who don't laugh much are taking life too seriously. With all the funny or silly things we think, say or do we should be laughing a lot every day. I regularly laugh at the funny ideas I get, the humorous accounts my children tell about school or the comical answers my wife gives people at work. I tell you God's got a sense of humour. Think how God had Naaman bathe in the dirty looking Jordan for his cleansing or how He had a donkey speak to rebuke the prophet! Now that's funny. 1 Kings 5, Nu.22:28-31.
See the funny side of life!
